PHOENIX (AP) - A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office detention officer has been accused of having sexual contact with a jail inmate.
Court documents show 34-year-old Roy Ramey was arrested Thursday on suspicion of four counts of unlawful sexual contact with an inmate.
Ramey reportedly admitted to escorting the inmate to a fictitious medical appointment in the Estrella Jail twice last month, then taking her into a private office and engaging in sexual acts with her.
He also allegedly admitted to making intimate contact with the inmate on two other occasions by entering her private cell.
Ramey has been a detention officer at the Estrella Jail since 2013.
Sheriff’s officials say Ramey has been placed on paid administrative leave.
It’s unclear if he has a lawyer. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 12.
