WAREHAM, Mass. (AP) - A Cohasset attorney accused of fatally striking a 66-year-old man in the parking lot behind Brockton District Court has pleaded not guilty.

The Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/2dnnxHE ) 66-year-old Valerie Semensi entered the plea Thursday to motor vehicle homicide in the June death of John Buckley Jr.

Authorities say Semensi was backing her SUV into a parking space when she accelerated up an embankment, drove through two bushes and struck the Bridgewater man on the sidewalk. The vehicle traveled about 200 feet in reverse before stopping.

Semensi hid her face from view during the arraignment. A family spokesman says she’s devastated by the incident and wishes it was her who died in the crash. The spokesman suggested there was a vehicle malfunction that could have caused the crash.
