OPINION:
Defying virtually all the pundits’ predictions, Donald Trump has defeated 16 of his opponents. Just a few weeks ago these same pundits resurrected their strongly felt predictions that Mr. Trump was “finished.” After being 0 for 16, a person would be rethinking his or her position, right? Wrong. Those who are against Mr. Trump just don’t seem to be able to see beyond their emotions.
Fortunately the actual voters do not seem to be as emotional in their candidate preference, as evidenced by the current closeness of the race. I have no idea whether Mr. Trump will win, or whether he has what it takes to be a successful president. I do, however, recognize that he has an amazing ability to ’win’ against some overwhelming odds. Is that a quality that we should be looking for in our next president? Is it something that might work to our advantage on a world scale? I really don’t know, but if Mr. Trump were a baseball pitcher, a 16-0 record would place him in Cy-Young-Award contention. And if he were a football quarterback, he might be appearing at the Super Bowl.
Looking past our own emotions might be a good way to cast our vote. Yet I recognize this may be a monumental obstacle to overcome.
