Donald Trump said in an interview with Dr. Mehmet Oz that aired Thursday that he’s against requiring a prescription for birth control, calling it too tough of an ask for some women.
“I think what we have in birth control is … when you have to get a prescription, that’s a pretty tough something to climb, and I would say it should not be a prescription — it should not be done by prescription,” Mr. Trump said on “The Dr. Oz Show” in an appearance taped Wednesday.
“You have women that just aren’t in a position to go get a prescription, and more and more people are coming out and saying that, but I am not in favor of prescription for birth control,” he said.
Some Republicans have adopted a similar position on over-the-counter birth control in recent years as they try to beat back Democratic accusations of a GOP “war on women.”
Mr. Trump also reaffirmed in the interview that he is pro-life.
