A prominent Planned Parenthood official said the prospect of a Donald Trump presidency is the abortion provider’s “biggest concern” right now.
Kathy Kneer, president and CEO of California Planned Parenthood, which performs more abortions than any other Planned Parenthood affiliate in the nation, said in an interview with Capitol Weekly that the Republican presidential nominee would take action to strip the organization of public funding.
“Overall, from a national perspective, our biggest concern is that if Donald Trump becomes president he would take action to defund Planned Parenthood affiliates around the country,” Ms. Kneer said in the interview published on Wednesday.
She said the president could influence federal Medicaid standards, which would affect how resources are allocated on the state level and jeopardize the California affiliate’s funding through Medi-Cal.
“We will do everything we can to make sure that Donald Trump is not the President of the United States,” Ms. Kneer said.
Planned Parenthood has strongly backed Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, even breaking tradition to endorse her during the party’s contentious primary race.
