DAMARISCOTTA, Maine (AP) - It’s time to know who’s going to carve out a victory in the annual pumpkin regatta.
The event on Sunday is part of Darmiscotta’s Pumpkinfest and features people piloting giant, carved-out gourds that have been transformed into boats.
The event is being held on the Damariscotta River with separate “paddleboat” and “powerboat” categories.
There’s even talk of a paddle polo events.
Other events on Sunday included a pumpkin derby race, pumpkin catapults and slingshots. The event got underway in earnest Saturday with a parade, zombie road race and pumpkin dessert contest.
