NOVI, Mich. (AP) - A suburban Detroit high school student with Down syndrome who recently ran a 36-yard touchdown has been named homecoming king.

Novi senior Robby Heil was crowned Friday night during halftime of his team’s losing game against Plymouth Salem. He’s a team manager and water distributor.

Robby wore a crown and sash that read, “Homecoming King 2016.” He earned the title by a vote of his classmates.

Robby ran the touchdown last month while his mother, who has cancer, watched from the sidelines. Coach Jeff Burnside put him in the game for the symbolic run into the end zone.
