LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts has announced that all U.S. and state flags are to be flown at half-staff to honor fallen firefighters.

The governor’s announcement is in accordance with a proclamation from President Barack Obama in honor of the National Firefighters Memorial Service.

The flags are to be flown at half-staff on Sunday until sunset.

Each year, the country honors its fallen firefighters during a service at the site of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial near Washington, D.C. The ceremony includes the placing of a presidential wreath at the monument and dedication of a plaque honoring those who died in the line-of-duty during the previous year.
