COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - Officials say the driver of a tanker truck at a western Iowa ethanol plant has been critically injured after the truck burst into flames.

Authorities say the fire at the Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy plant occurred Friday afternoon as the driver was loading the tanker with ethanol.

Firefighters from multiple nearby departments were called to contain the fire, which required special foam to extinguish the ethanol-fueled flames.

Authorities say at least one explosion in the fire was reported.

The driver was flown to an Omaha, Nebraska, hospital in critical condition. Authorities have not released the driver’s name or his medical condition Saturday.
