NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) - A Granby woman has been convicted of first-degree murder in the 2010 strangulation of her wife.
Cara Lee Rintala was convicted Friday by a jury at her third trial, which included 11 days of testimony from 30 witnesses.
Trials in 2013 and 2014 ended in mistrials. Jurors in the third trail were allowed to consider both murder and manslaughter charges.
The Republican of Springfield reports (https://bit.ly/2dBJCn4 ) Rintala broke into tears after the verdict was read.
The body of Annamarie Cochrane Rintala, a paramedic, was found in the couple’s home in March 2010 at the bottom of the basement stairs covered in paint.
The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sentencing has been scheduled for Oct. 12.
