PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Hermiston police arrested a 12-year-old boy accused of circulating a threat of gun violence through social media.

Chief Jason Edmiston says the boy created a fictitious Instagram profile and used a picture of a clown as the profile photo. The child allegedly sent a threat of shooting up a middle school to more than one student. The threat was then shared numerous times.

The boy was arrested Thursday afternoon on a charge of first-degree disorderly conduct. He was booked into a juvenile detention facility in Pendleton.
