LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) - A Mora County man is facing up to 20 years in prison after entering a plea agreement in connection to a shooting that left two dead and one injured.
The Las Vegas Optic reports (https://bit.ly/2dvHP2p ) that 46-year-old Donald Valdez pleaded guilty last month to two counts of second-degree murder, one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the October 2015 shootings of Fred Montoya and Bernadine Garcia. A third victim was injured in the shooting.
As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors have recommended Valdez receive no more than 20 years in prison for the crimes.
A sentencing hearing will be held once a pre-sentence report has been completed.
