President Obama will discuss “lessons in leadership” and challenges faced by minority boys next week in a forum hosted by ESPN at a historically black college in the battleground state of North Carolina.
Mr. Obama will participate in the event at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro on Oct. 11, with topics including his “My Brothers’ Keeper” initiative and athletes and social activism, ESPN said in a statement.
“We are honored to host this townhall featuring the president at one of the leading historically black universities in the country,” said Kevin Merida, ESPN senior vice president. “We expect a vibrant conversation about the present and the future, and about the challenges facing black students.”
While the discussion four weeks before Election Day isn’t overtly a campaign event, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is locked in a tight battle with Republican Donald Trump for the swing state. Turnout of black voters in North Carolina will be an important factor in the election.
