FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Frederick city officials are cutting the ribbon on a tunnel connecting the east and west sides of a citywide bicycle and pedestrian network.
The event Tuesday officially opens an underpass beneath U.S. 15 about one-third of a mile north of the highway’s intersection with U.S. 40.
City spokeswoman Patti Mullins says the tunnel is the most significant connection in the bicycle-and-pedestrian transportation plan. It connects the Golden Mile shopping district west of U.S. 15 to the downtown area, about a mile away.
The route goes through Baker Park east of the highway and Waterford Park on the west side.
