In an apparent dig at Republican Mike Pence, Vice President Joseph R. Biden advised the two vice presidential candidates ahead of Tuesday night’s debate to “think about whether you made the right decision.”

Mr. Biden didn’t hesitate when asked by reporters at the White House Tuesday whether he had any debate advice for Mr. Pence, the running mate of Republican nominee Donald Trump, and Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, the Democratic vice presidential candidate running with Hillary Clinton.

“Think about whether you made the right decision,” Mr. Biden said, gesturing out his window toward the West Wing of the White House. “Because it could be a long day in that office over there if you don’t agree with the president.”

Mr. Biden has been harshly critical of Mr. Trump, calling him unqualified and unfit for the presidency.
