TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) - Police in Torrance have shot and killed a suspected drunk driver who slammed into a patrol car.

The woman was pronounced dead at a hospital Monday afternoon.

Authorities tell the Daily Breeze of Torrance (https://bit.ly/2f2Y4GH ) that the woman apparently had been in a traffic accident and her air bag was deployed before police spotted her following reports of a reckless driver.

When they tried to stop the sedan, it drove erratically on the wrong side of the road and nearly hit several cars. At a gas station, an officer finally bumped the car to make the driver stop.

Police say the driver then tried to escape by driving forward toward several officers and rammed a patrol car before she was shot.

One officer received minor injuries.
