PITTSBURGH (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say they do not yet know the cause of death of a burglary suspect found dead in the stairwell of a Pittsburgh building after a reported break-in.

Public safety officials said officers were called to the building shortly before 7:30 a.m. Monday and found the 46-year-old man dead.

Investigators said they were told that the man was a burglar who had entered a seventh-floor apartment and was confronted by the resident.

Police said a brief struggle ensued and the burglar fled. No gun was involved. The man was later found dead at a stairwell landing on the fourth floor.

The cause and manner of death is still pending. The suspect’s name wasn’t released.
