Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry says the semi was traveling at 30 mph up a steep incline when the woman’s vehicle rear-ended it.

Investigators believe the woman, who was driving 80 mph, somehow failed to notice the semi up ahead.

The impact demolished the front passenger side of the car.

The 74-year-old driver had to be extricated and was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

The 57-year-old male driver of the semi suffered minor injuries.
