PAWNEE, Okla. (AP) - The U.S. Geological Survey has recorded at least four small earthquakes in northern Oklahoma, including one of magnitude 3.3.
No injuries or damage are reported as a result of Saturday’s quakes.
The 3.3 magnitude quake was recorded at 1:06 a.m. Saturday near Pawnee, about 70 miles northeast of Oklahoma City and a magnitude 3.0 quake was recorded at 6:50 a.m. near Tonkawa, about 75 miles north of Oklahoma City.
Magnitude 2.7 and 2.8 earthquakes were also recorded near Tonkawa.
An increase in magnitude 3.0 and stronger earthquakes in Oklahoma has been linked to the underground disposal of wastewater from oil and natural gas production. State regulators have ordered some disposal wells to be permanently shut down and others to reduce the amount of wastewater they return underground.
