HONOLULU (AP) - An engineer and licensed contractor will join the board overseeing Hawaii’s financially-strapped rail project.
Mayor Kirk Caldwell said in a statement that Koga Engineering & Construction chairman Glenn Nohara has years of experience in the private sector, especially in estimating project construction costs.
The rail project is estimated to cost about $1.8 billion more than expected so far.
Nohara would replace Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation board chairwoman Colleen Hanabusa.
Hanabusa resigned to pursue a seat in Congress.
A new board chair will be chosen by members.
