AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - Investigators say a traffic stop in the Texas Panhandle has yielded nearly $3.5 million worth of drugs allegedly being smuggled from California to Mississippi.
The Texas Department of Public Safety on Friday announced the seizure of 37 pounds of methamphetamine, more than 4 pounds of cocaine and two arrests.
A DPS statement says the drugs were found Wednesday when a trooper stopped an SUV on Interstate 40 in Carson County, near Amarillo, for a traffic violation. Authorities discovered more than 30 plastic-wrapped packages of methamphetamine and cocaine in a hidden compartment.
The driver and a passenger, both from Victorville, California, were arrested on possession of a controlled substance charges.
DPS officials believe the drugs were being transported from Victorville to West Point, Mississippi.
