SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Missouri State quarterback Breck Ruddick faces municipal charges of cruelty to animals and having a dog at large after an incident that left a friend’s dog injured.
Springfield’s chief municipal prosecutor Carl Yendes announced the filing of municipal charges in Thursday after the Greene County Prosecutor’s office declined to file state charges.
The Springfield News-Leader reports (https://sgfnow.co/2eDS7iG ) that Ruddick is accused of beating the dog on Sept. 20, breaking its jaw and knocking out several teeth.
Both charges carry maximum penalties of a $1,000 fine and/or up to 180 days in jail.
After an investigation by Missouri State, Ruddick was allowed to stay on the team but won’t play in any games until next season.
