SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is suing a former jail officer, saying he violated a 2015 lawsuit settlement.
The Herald Journal of Spartanburg reported (https://bit.ly/2eNvGWQ) that the county’s lawsuit accuses Brian Blalock of violating the settlement agreement by discussing the previous settlement.
Blalock was fired from in 2012 after being accused of excessive use of force. Blalock then sued the sheriff’s office, claiming unfair treatment as a result of racial discrimination.
The newspaper said Blalock was awarded a $25,000 settlement and had agreed not to discuss that settlement.
The new lawsuit accuses him of violating the agreement by an article published in the newspaper and a video posted online. The county is seeking $10,000.
Blalock said the agreement only prevented him from discussing how much he got in the settlement.
