EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine (AP) - University of Maine System trustees have given unanimous support to the first phase of creating a new professional and graduate center in Portland.

The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2exd9Nl ) the trustees voted Sunday to let the chancellor ask for $15 million from the Harold Alfond Foundation, a financial backer of the initiative.

The goal of the project is to eventually build a new facility to house graduate programs in law, business and public policy under one roof. It is projected to cost $150 million. A location for the building hasn’t yet been identified.

The trustees gathered at the East Millinocket University Center at the Katahdin Region Higher Education Center.
