DENVER (AP) - Diane Duffy, the chief operating officer at the Colorado Department of Higher Education, has become the department’s interim executive director.

Gov. John Hickenlooper made the appointment Friday.

Duffy also has served as chief financial officer at the department.

Hickenlooper’s office is searching for a permanent replacement for Joe Garcia, the former lieutenant governor who also served as higher education chief.

Garcia left office in April, and Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne has been filling in as interim chief.
