VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - The Coast guard says its rescue crews helped four people whose pleasure boat was taking on water near Virginia Beach.
The boaters called the Coast Guard shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday to report that their boat was taking on water fast. They reported that a plug was missing and they were concerned the vessel would capsize.
Coast Guard crews were on scene shortly after 9 p.m. and helped pump water from the boat before towing it to a marina.
The boat was about 2 miles offshore, near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Coast Guard officials say the boat was equipped with a VHF marine radio, which helped the boaters broadcast their distress and get help quickly.
