A visit to the chiropractor gone wrong ultimately led to the February death of a 34-year-old Playboy model, People reported Wednesday.
Katie May died from a stroke days after the visit, and a coroner’s report confirms that a neck injury led to her death, the magazine said, citing a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner.
“Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter tells PEOPLE that a chiropractor shifted May’s neck, tearing her left vertebral artery. The tear blocked blood flow to May’s brain and caused the stroke.”
“I personally have not seen this before,” Dr. Winter told People.
The coroner’s office has ruled Ms. May’s death an accident. It is unclear at this time what legal action, if any, her family will take in terms of civil litigation.
