BANGOR, Maine (AP) - A lawsuit filed by the sister of Sen. Andrew Cushing accuses him of siphoning money from the family business and using some of it for his political campaigns.
Laura Cushing McIntyre is accusing her brother, the assistant majority leader, of misappropriating more than $1 million from the family’s business. The Cushing Family Corporation was created to support the family’s timberlands and make investments.
McIntyre declined to speak to news reporters, but her attorney, Walter McKee, said the lawsuit followed months of research into the disappearance of money.
The lawsuit names other family members and companies in addition to Cushing, a Newport Republican.
In a statement, Cushing described his sister as “disgruntled” and he was disappointed that a family disagreement has spilled into the public domain.
