RENO, Nev. (AP) - Weekend rainstorms have damaged 19 Washoe County public schools because of leaky roofs.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (https://on.rgj.com/2dkPEKC ) that 12 elementary schools, three middle schools and four high schools suffered damage ranging from ruined ceiling tiles to flooded carpets after the rainfall. In some instances, classes had to he held in other rooms.
District spokesman Riley Sutton says the district has not yet estimated the cost of the damage, but that the leaks are a direct result of $31 million of roof work the district needs.
The leaks come three weeks before Washoe voters decided on a ballot question that could provide the district with an estimated $781 million over 10 years in sales tax revenue.
