COMPTON, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials say a man and a woman were shot and wounded as they sat inside a parked car in Compton.

Deputy Crystal Hernandez says the man was in the driver’s seat, the woman was in the front passenger seat and a boy was in the back seat when two men approached the car and tried to open the doors Sunday night.

Hernandez says when they couldn’t open the doors, one suspect produced a handgun and fired through the driver’s side front windshield. The man was struck in the upper body and the woman in the lower torso.

The male victim was hospitalized in critical condition and the woman was treated and released. The boy was not hurt.

Investigators have not named a motive or released suspect descriptions.
