COLUMBUS, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a woman has been fatally shot and the suspect was killed in a standoff in a residence in east Alabama.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said in an email Sunday that Daniel Murphy is accused of shooting his 38-year-old wife Erica Murphy to death during a four-hour standoff on Saturday night.
Local news media outlets report an investigation was sparked after Erica Murphy was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital, leading officers to the residence.
During the standoff, Daniel Murphy appeared in the window and aimed a weapon at deputies with a laser sight.
Harris says 38-year-old Daniel Murphy refused to drop the weapon and was shot by an officer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say no one else was injured.
