ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - A solar-powered house built by students at the University of Michigan for an U.S. Department of Energy competition is for sale.
The Ann Arbor News reports (https://bit.ly/2dTXUyV ) Sunday that the 459-square-foot structure is up for bid until Oct. 20 on the school’s Procurement Services website.
Members of the university’s Michigan Solar team constructed it for the 2005 Solar Decathlon Challenge.
University facilities manager Jeff Walters says the house since has been used as a teaching tool on the benefits of solar power.
The house is designed to be self-sustainable. It features a bedroom, bathroom, refrigerator, sink, furniture, storage space, a washing machine and a trailer to haul it around.
Walters says the house “has a little wear and tear, but it’s still in pretty good shape.”
