RICHMOND, Texas (AP) - Authorities say they are investigating after a man shot two people - one fatally - who approached and assaulted residents of a Southeast Texas home.

The Fort Bend County sheriff’s office says their preliminary investigation shows that two people armed with a handgun approached and assaulted residents of the home early Saturday morning. During the assault, a resident retrieved his handgun from within the home and fired on the two.

Officials say a 24-year-old died at the scene. A 20-year-old transported to a hospital and was expected to survive.

Officials say the two men who came to the house had recently threatened the homeowner regarding a burglary report filed last year. That report resulted in the arrest and charging of the 20-year-old, but the charge was later dismissed.
