GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A 23-year veteran of the Grand Rapids Police Department has been arrested for failing to report an accident and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The 46-year-old officer was arrested Sunday morning by state police after leaving the scene of a single-car crash while off-duty.
Authorities say the officer’s blood alcohol content was above the state’s legal limit. Michigan driving laws define drunkenness as having a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher.
The officer was treated for minor injuries at a hospital and then lodged in the Kent County jail. He has been placed on administrative leave.
State police are investigating the crash. Grand Rapids police say an administrative investigation also will be conducted.
