BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Elmer’s Island, a wildlife refuge and barrier island in Jefferson Parish, will be closing for a week for construction work.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced that the island and its public access road will be shuttered Monday, a closure that will continue for seven days to allow time for road repairs and the installation of a parking lot.

Elmer’s Island, located about 50 miles south of New Orleans, is a popular site for fishing.
