COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - The University of Maryland’s student government has proposed a fee on students to help fund the Title IX Office, which investigates sexual misconduct.
Junior A.J. Pruitt, vice president of student affairs for the Student Government Administration, tells WUSA (https://on.wusa9.com/2dQa8do) this week that the average time to investigate alleged sexual misconduct was 142 days. Federal guidelines call for 60 days.
Pruitt says he and his classmates proposed the $34 fee after university officials failed to increase funding for the Title IX Office.
If the proposal is approved by a student-faculty committee, it goes to the university president and the Board of Regions for final approval.
