FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Texas has been awarded more than $45 million to help communities recovery from disastrous flooding related to storms earlier this year.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development on Thursday announced the housing-related funding. HUD officials say the hardest-hit Texas counties were Harris, Montgomery and Newton counties.

A HUD statement says the community development block grant is meant to help people with the greatest level of unmet housing needs.

Agency officials say disaster recovery grants can support a wide variety of activities including housing redevelopment, business assistance and infrastructure repair.
