STAYTON, Ore. (AP) - The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says a bicyclist died instantly after getting hit by a minivan near Stayton.

A spokesman says the minivan and bicycle were on Shaff Road, both heading eastbound in the rain before Thursday’s sunrise. The bicyclist wore dark clothing and the road has a very narrow shoulder and no lighting.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. The road reopened at about 8:30 a.m.
