LORANGER, La. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a woman was found shot to death on the side of a road in Loranger.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that 27-year-old Heather Cox of Loranger was pronounced dead at the scene early Tuesday morning.
Deputies received reports that a vehicle may have struck a pedestrian whose body was lying near the roadway, but officials discovered that the victim had been shot in the upper torso. The death has been ruled a homicide.
Also Tuesday morning, deputies responded to a vehicle on fire in Independence. Sheriff Daniel Edwards says the 2006 Nissan Sentra was found completely burned in a grassy area near a highway.
He says detectives were able to link the Nissan to Cox’s killing.
No arrests have been made.
