STANTON, Del. (AP) - Authorities say a 32-year-old man assaulted and strangled his girlfriend before firing a gun and pointing it at her inside a Stanton trailer park residence.

In court records, investigators say Brian Kenney argued with his girlfriend Saturday night while taking Xanax and drinking at least eight beers.

New Castle County police say Kenney choked the woman, hit her repeatedly in the face and then held a knife over her. The woman fled after she says he grabbed two guns and fired one round inside another room.

Authorities say they found Kenney inside the home with a rifle. Officer First Class JP Piser says Kenney refused to comply with the officers’ commands, so police used stun guns to take him into custody.

Kenney faces numerous charges, including strangulation and third-degree assault.
