CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - A beloved police dog is being laid to rest.
The Cranston Police Department said K-9 officer Bosco will be honored Wednesday. The dog served from April 2008 until his retirement in July 2015. Police announced his death over the weekend.
Police said Bosco will receive a traditional police escort to Final Gift Cremations in Cranston, where there would be a private viewing. Officers also give a final salute as Bosco is driven by the police station.
The department said Bosco was nationally certified police dog trained in narcotics detection. He was partner to K-9 Officer Gregg Bruno and directly responsible for the seizure of over $600,000 worth of drug, property and money from illegal activities.
The department has been posting photos, comments and a video to honor Bosco on its Facebook page.
