BAKER, La. (AP) - Flood debris pickup is nearly complete in Baker.
Mayor Darnell Waites told the city council Tuesday $300,000 has been spent on debris pickup. Waits said the Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse the city.
With new construction going on related to the flood, Waits says that debris will be the next issue for the city.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/2dJ5U7h) the council unanimously passed a resolution allowing the city to move forward on rebuilding city structures damaged in the flood, a requirement for reimbursement from FEMA.
The $4 million Baker Fire Station on Groom Road accounted for the bulk of the damage to city property and has been gutted and readied for rebuilding.
Waites says bids for the architectural work on the fire station will be accepted next week.
