MIDLAND, Texas (AP) - Police say two West Texas officers responding to a disturbance call fatally shot a man as he reached for a gun stuffed in his waistband.

A Midland city statement says 19-year-old Kheyanev Littledog of Midland died Monday night after being transported to a hospital.

Midland police Officer Aaron Renz and Officer Aaron Trevino were put on administrative leave pending an internal review of the shooting.

Investigators say the officers around 7:30 p.m. Monday responded to an industrial area on a report of a suspicious man with a gun.

The city statement says police confronted Littledog, saw a handgun in his waistband and shot him when he reached for the weapon. Officers located a second firearm in Littledog’s backpack.

The statement says Littledog did not have a license to carry firearms.
