GONZALES, La. (AP) - Ascension Parish debris removal contractors have collected enough post-flood trash to cover a football field with debris almost 141 feet high, or roughly the height of a 13-story building.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/2ebQxpx ) their work is not yet done but is approaching its end. Parish government officials said Monday in a statement that debris removal for the August flood ends Oct. 31 and residents should push remaining, separated debris to the right of way by then.
The parish’s public drop-off point at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center near Gonzales will also remain open until Oct. 31.
Parish officials said their debris contractors have removed nearly 300,000 cubic yards of storm waste since pickup began Aug. 23.
