PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - A damages claim has been filed in the case of a man armed with a knife who died last month after being stunned with a Taser and subdued by Pasadena police officers responding to a domestic disturbance call.

The claim was filed with the Pasadena city clerk on Friday by attorney Caree Harper on behalf of a grandmother of Reginald Thomas and three women who are mothers of his children. Claims are a precursor to a lawsuit.

The claim alleges that officers used violent physical force on Thomas and Fire Department paramedics were negligent.

Police say the man didn’t comply with orders, a Taser was used to disarm him and a fight ensued. A city statement says officers saw he was not breathing and performed CPR until paramedics took over.
