SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Some visitors to the state Capitol received a rare tour of the building’s rotunda as part of the ongoing celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Capitol’s dedication.

The rotunda is one of the most iconic destinations within the Utah Capitol, with intricate murals depicting historical scenes including Brigham Young and the pioneers entering the Salt Lake Valley.

Members of the media were given a rare tour of the dome’s interior with Rep. Brad Dee from the Capitol preservation board on Sunday. The dome’s interior features decades-old graffiti dating back to the 1020s.

The Capitol celebration on Sunday also featured a time capsule opening and a gala.
