SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Voters in Spokane County have passed a proposal that will find a major expansion of public transit. It’s the first significant service expansion since the Spokane Transit Authority was created in 1981.

The new revenue from a local sales tax increase will help STA increase overall service by 25 percent. The sales tax will increase .1 percent next April, with a second .1 percent increase in 2019. Spokane Transit will start implementing the first of the new projects next May, including later night service on Saturdays.
