NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Yale star Makai Mason will miss the season with a broken right foot.

School spokesman Timothy Bennett says the 6-foot-1 guard came down awkwardly on the foot during a closed scrimmage against Boston University on Saturday and will need surgery.

Mason averaged 16 points and 3.8 assists per game last season as a sophomore and was named to the All-Ivy League first team.

He led Yale to its first NCAA Tournament since 1962 and scored a career-high 31 points the team’s upset win over Baylor in the first round.

Mason declared for the NBA draft, but withdrew his name before the deadline.
