SCHROEPPEL, N.Y. (AP) - State police say three people have died in a wrong-way three-vehicle crash on a central New York highway.
Troopers say witnesses reported a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes of state Route 481 north of Syracuse shortly after 11 a.m. Monday. Trooper Jack Keller says the wrong-way vehicle struck two others near Exit 14 in the Oswego County town of Schroeppel (SCROO’-puhl).
Police say the driver of the wrong-way vehicle died on impact from the head-on crash. Two passengers in one of the vehicles struck were also killed. The driver of that vehicle was taken to a Syracuse hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the third vehicle was treated for minor injuries.
The southbound lanes remain closed as troopers investigate.
