BERLIN, Vt. (AP) - State police say a patient with a history of mental illness and violence ran away from a mental health facility in Williamstown and was later found in another town several miles away.

Police say 27-year-old Jon Fox, previously known as Evan Rapoza, fled the Second Springs facility Friday night. He was found a short time later walking in Berlin.

Fox has been at the facility since December 2015.

He was charged in 2011 with attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a propane delivery man was beaten with a wrench and choked with a belt at a St. Johnsbury apartment building.

The man suffered massive head trauma and was left unable to walk on his own.

Fox was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and the charges were dropped.
